Dyno Creative recently had the privilege of showcasing some of our dinosaur-themed art in a Dyno-Mite Art Show sponsored by Whalebird Kombucha and hosted by the Black Umbrella Tattoo and Art Gallery, located in Garden Grove, CA. This dyno-mite collaboration was the perfect opportunity to share our love for all things art and design.
Daniel Adoff, Principal and Chief Strategist of Dyno Creative, met Justin Shimrock, Tattoo Artist and Shop Manager for Black Umbrella Tattoo, as a fellow Laguna College of Art and Design (LCAD) alumni in 2019. Daniel reached out to him recently to have him come back and audit his Professional Practice class at LCAD, as well as do some demos. From there, they continued to share updates on their current projects and checked in on each other throughout the course of the pandemic.
Like many other places of business, Black Umbrella Tattoo gradually began phasing back in their services as COVID-19 restrictions continued to lift. Part of this process involved reopening the art gallery. In an effort to reinvigorate the gallery, they reached out to Dyno Creative as one of the first people to be in the art show. Originally spawned from our “Dynovember” Fall Drawing Challenge, our Dyno-Mite Art Show featured a selection of our dyno-inspired illustrations ranging from screenprinted tshirts and prints, to digitally printed canvases, and even skateboards! Yes, actual skateboards! Who wouldn’t find that exciting!?
When Black Umbrella Tattoo reached out looking for assistance in kicking off their art gallery reopening, we couldn’t resist! Not only did we already love their team and admire what they do, our shared community of talented creatives has had nothing less than positive things to say about their wonderful experience featuring their work in the art gallery.
A fellow friend and talented artist, April Solomon, stepped in and did the first solo art show upon the shop returning from COVID, which gave us the time needed to pull together our designs. After all, if we were going to do an art show, we were going to make sure it had dinosaurs in it. Go big or go home, right? Even better, one of our valued partners, Whalebird Kombucha, sponsored the opening event and provided delicious drinks for all to enjoy! Pretty sweet deal if you ask us.
The grand gallery opening, aka the Dyno-Mite Art Show, was held on May 21, 2022. The art gallery continued to feature our designs from May 21st through June 25th. We are proud to take part in Black Umbrella Tattoo’s mission to expand their shop, find more artists to expose to the world, and promote the craft of tattooing. Aside from being amazing tattoo artists and all around genuine people, they also work incredibly hard at developing their shop as a platform for self-expression, bringing more unique voices into the world of tattooing and the art world overall.
Needless to say, the whole event was a dyno-mite success! Not only did we sell a handful of art pieces, we were able to positively impact the shop. It was an honor to be a part of such a unique event, and we are already looking forward to our next collaboration! Thank you to everyone who came out to support us and the amazingly talented team at Black Umbrella Tattoo.
We are looking forward to continued success in the future and more dyno-mite events like this one! If you are looking to get a tattoo, head on over to Black Umbrella Tattoo and Art Gallery. Their team of friendly and highly talented artists are happy to accept walk-ins, or you can contact individual artists directly through the shop’s Instagram. Looking to feature your artwork in the art gallery like we did? Slide into Justin DM’s on his instagram and he’ll get you squared away. Until next time..rawr!
